A Little Heart of Me

A Little Heart of Me

I pour my heart into everything I make, and this one? It’s literally just that!

When I set out to design a heart, I did notice the crochet world is full of heart patterns… still couldn’t resist making my own version!

I gave him that extra chubby look and intentionally left the front free of decreases, so you have a smooth surface to embroider your own cute details.

This one is meant to be shared 🥰 May it find it’s way into every heartfelt gift you give.

Let's Get Stitchin'!

We’ll start off with the Lobes and make 2.

R 1 - 6 sc in MR (6)

R 2 - inc x 6 (12)

R 3 - [1 sc, inc] x 6 (18)

R 4 to 5 - 18 sc (x 2 Rnds) (18)

⇢ Crochet Lobe A and cut the yarn, leaving a long tail to join the lobes, but don’t fasten off!

⇢ Crochet Lobe B, but don’t cut the yarn! Leave it on hold—we’ll continue the rest of the heart from here after joining the lobes.

To join the lobes

1. Place the lobes side by side, facing down, and align the first two stitches of each so they match up one-to-one.

Tip > Place markers on the 3rd stitch of each lobe to mark where the join starts and ends.

2. Pick up where you left off on Lobe A—we’ll be using Lobe A’s tail to work the join.

3. Insert your hook through the first pair of stitches (one from each lobe) and work a sl st to join them, using Lobe A’s tail.

4. Repeat for the next pair of stitches, then fasten off.

(See picture 1)

On with the body

⇢ Pick up where you left off on Lobe B. For the next round, we’ll sc around the 16 leftover stitches on Lobe A and the 16 on Lobe B—32 in total.

Tip > Keep your marker on Lobe A to mark the beginning of your rounds—this side will be the back of the heart.

R 6 to 8 - 32 sc (x 3 Rnds) (32)

(See picture 2)

⇢ It’s normal to get a small gap at the join, when jumping from one piece to the other. Just use Lobe A’s tail to stitch it closed!

R 9 - [6 sc, 2 dec, 6 sc] x 2 (28)

R 10 - [5 sc, 2 dec, 5 sc] x 2 (24)

R 11 - [4 sc, 2 dec, 4 sc] x 2 (20)

⇢ Now pause your work to embroider the face 🙂

Start with the eyes

Make sure you're stitching on the front of the heart (the back is where you left your marker).

Find the spots 2 rows above you working round and 6 points apart, aligned at the center.

From there, make vertical stitches going up 2 points. When the eye is the right width, knot the ends inside and cut the excess yarn.

Add a small dash of white yarn near the top of the eye for a highlight.

Now, for the blush

Find the spots just below the eyes.

From there, make horizontal stitches going 1 pt towards the sides.

When your blush is the right width, knot the ends inside and cut the excess yarn.

(See picture 3)

Almost there...

⇢ Start stuffing the top part and pick up where you left off on the body to finish the point.

R 12 - [3 sc, 2 dec, 3 sc] x 2 (16)

R 13 - [2 sc, 2 dec, 2 sc] x 2 (12)

R 14 - [1 sc, 2 dec, 1 sc] x 2 (8)

⇢ Finish stuffing firmly to bring out that perfect little heart shape 🥰 Use something like a pencil to help push the filling into every nook.

⇢ Cut the yarn, leaveing a long tail, and close off your heart.

Yay, you did it!
